Feed Your Garden’s Feathered Visitors
A bird feeder can be a wonderful addition to almost any garden or yard. They bring the entertaining company of songbirds, provide an educational window into nature, and beautify your garden with bright, lively guests. Not only that, but in areas with cold winters, your bird feeder will bring life and color to your outdoor spaces when the rest of the garden is at rest.
There are an unlimited variety of bird feeders to choose from. Some cater to particular species of birds while others attract a broader spectrum. And all of these types are available in every conceivable material, color, and style.
For example, if you most want to fill your garden with the antics of bright yellow gold finches, choose a thistle feeder. They’re usually tube shaped, and the main body of the feeder is a fine wire or cloth mesh. They’re best filled with thistle seed, which gold finches love.
If you prefer to attract insect eating birds, like woodpeckers and nuthatches, a suet feeder is more suitable. These are usually formed of strong wire, with large spaces between, which hold a suet block.
If your garden is very formal, you can choose an intricately painted ceramic feeder; if it’s more rustic, perhaps a wooden feeder would complement it more. You can also make your own bird feeder; look at prefabricated feeders to get an idea of the designs that work best, and then choose your own materials.
